FIBERSHIELD® VOLUNTARY RECALL PROGRAM
McGard is conducting a recall of its FiberShield® brand composite manhole covers. This voluntary recall was commenced after we were notified that one of the covers failed in the field; specifically, in an installation experiencing vehicle traffic. This cover was sold by McGard, but not manufactured by McGard, and the precise cause(s) of the failure has not been finally and conclusively determined.
Nonetheless, we have since elected to close down the product line, notify our FiberShield customers, and administer this recall. Notices to customers (representative examples, but not exclusive) are linked below.
We continue to encourage all FiberShield customers to comply immediately with the following recommendations:
- All FiberShield covers that were not manufactured by McGard (i.e. those covers with an “=” symbol) must be immediately removed from service, regardless of where they are installed. An illustration of a FiberShield cover that was not manufactured by McGard is noted as “Exhibit A” below.
- All FiberShield covers that were manufactured by McGard (i.e. those covers with a “+” symbol), must be immediately removed from areas within which any lawful vehicle traffic is permitted, but may remain installed in areas prohibiting vehicle traffic. Any FiberShield covers manufactured by McGard that will remain installed in areas prohibiting vehicle traffic should be regularly inspected for any unusual wear and tear. Any such wear and tear should be reported to us immediately. An illustration of a FiberShield cover that was manufactured by McGard is noted as “Exhibit B” below.
In each case noted above, McGard will pay for the cost of a cast iron cover to replace the recalled FiberShield cover(s), the specific procedure for which can be explained by contacting: Mike Reilly, National Sales Manager, at (716) 539-7245 or
email@example.com. As a further reminder, a FiberShield Cover should never be installed in a location for which it was not designed.
